Serious Jest: (Watch it Live) This show is loosely based on Mark Wahlberg‘s rise to stardom, but Adrien Grenier plays a young actor from Brooklyn who doesn’t rap with an eight-ball cane. My favorite character and actor in this show, however, is super-agent Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven (who somehow actually looks younger than he did 20 years ago), because he drops hard truths in a hilarious A-hole fashion, but he’s a loyal, complex character with a good heart. The show also gives you the inside scoop on all of the background aspects of making movies, from many different viewpoints, in a highly entertaining fashion. It is brutally honest about guy situations involving friendships, legitimate love interests, sexual exploits, various vices, and career success. There are too many cameos to count, but they often make them count (you like that pun?) by actually involving the celebrities in entertaining ways, (i.e., Matt Damon shaking Vince down for money). Throw in a bunch of hot naked women, and a really cool soundtrack (Kid Cudi’s “Day ‘N’ Night” smashed the music charts after many people, including myself, heard it for the first time on an episode), and this show is definitely one you want to own.
