(PG-13) 94 mins
Plot Summary: Two slacker friends try to promote their public-access cable show.
Serious Jest: (Must See) Entertaining, whimsical, and yet relevant, with an underlying revisionist conceit that belied the film’s emotional attachments to the subject matter…Shee-yah! Right! As if!
Here’s the real Scooby-Doo review: In my opinion, Saturday Night Live’s biggest issue is letting its sketches run too long, so that a clever concept becomes not funny. By that reasoning, then, turning a SNL sketch into a two-hour movie becomes a special challenge. Wayne’s World rose to the occasion, however. I gave this film 4 mugs because it is a comedy classic that everyone should see at some point for its 90’s pop culture value, but make sure you pick the right time to watch it (I recommend a lazy weekend afternoon or snow day; almost 20 years after its release, this is no longer a Friday night feature). Be prepared for silly humor, but it’s creative and witty…and it would have gotten away with it, if it weren’t for those meddling kids.
