The Wolfman (2010)

(R) 102 mins

Synopsis: Upon his return to his ancestral homeland, an American man is bitten, and subsequently cursed by, a werewolf.

Director: Joe Johnston

Writers: Andrew Kevin Walker (screenplay), David Self (screenplay), and Curt Siodmak (1941 motion picture screenplay)

Stars: Benicio Del ToroAnthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt

Serious Jest:  (Don’t Bother)  I did not find this movie to be scary or suspenseful.  The storyline was pretty mundane, with a predictable twist, and the action sequences were hokey.  Too bad, because the cast was great.  Blunt is not only beautiful, but she also delivered such a delicate and compassionate performance that I actually cared whether her character survived.  Del Toro is an elite actor, and he played the brooding, tortured-soul rich son well, but it seemed quite a weird choice to cast his very-Latino looks alongside extremely-Anglo-looking Hopkins and Simon Merrells, as his father and brother, respectively…at one point I wondered if there’d be an illegitimate-child plot point.
