Dinner for Schmucks (2010)

Dinner for Schmucks

(PG-13) 114 mins

Plot Summary: When he finds out that his work superiors host a dinner celebrating the idiocy of their guests, a rising executive questions it when he’s invited, just as he befriends a man who would be the perfect guest.

Director: Jay Roach

Writers: David Guion (screenplay), Michael Handelman(screenplay), and Francis Veber (film “Le Diner de Cons”)

Stars: Steve CarellPaul Rudd and Stephanie Szostak

Serious Jest:  (Worth Watching)  The humor was often over-the-top silly, rather than witty…but this film had a great cast–I’m a fan of Carell, Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, and Jemaine Clement–so I got a few laughs out of it, and it was worth my time.  Temper your expectations, though, and definitely don’t pay any money to watch this movie.

PS: One part of this movie that I could specifically relate to was Rudd’s character screwing up his relationship with the love of his life unintentionally, and then managing to do just the wrong thing (also unintentionally, of course) every time he got close to getting her back.  Definitely been there…

frustrating to see carrell and rudd in a movie that should be funnier than it was. good call on not spending money on it…not terrible, but not very good either.
