Men in Black (1997)

(PG-13) 97 mins

Synopsis: Two men who keep an eye on aliens in New York City must try to save the world after the aliens threaten to blow it up.

Director: Barry Sonnenfeld

Writers: Lowell Cunningham (comic), Ed Solomon (screen story, screenplay)

Stars: Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith and Linda Fiorentino

Serious Jest: (Rental) Original, creative, and interesting…enough to make up for its silliness. This one’s a classic sci-fi film, and Jones and Smith have great chemistry.

CraigMakk: (Rental) This movie holds up pretty damn well after all these years. Seeing trailers for MiB3 reminds me how much they never should have even made a MiB2. Surprisingly, Will Smith somehow walks the fine line between being annoying “too cool for the room” Will Smith and “actual good actor” Will Smith, and ends up being somehow likable. And Tommy Lee Jones plays the old guard agent who is losing touch with the new school as well as anyone. The special effects are somewhat dated now, but the premise is still one of the cooler sci-fi stories of recent years. And who doesn’t wish they had one of those cool memory-wipe flash doohickeys? I’ll tell you who did…me after seeing the trailer for MiB3.
