Thief (1981)

(R) 123 mins

Plot Summary: Becoming closer to his dream of leading a normal life, a professional safecracker agrees to do a job for the mafia, who have other plans for him.

Director: Michael Mann

Writers: Frank Hohimer (novel “The Home Invaders”), Michael Mann (screen story, screenplay)

Stars: James CaanTuesday Weld and Willie Nelson

Serious Jest:  (Worth Watching)  This is a pretty straight-forward-but-solid heist movie.  Heavy research into safe-cracking, alarm systems, fencing stolen merchandise and prison stories was obviously done, giving it a very authentic feel (although I wonder why mafia boss Robert Prosky‘s security was so light).  The cast and camera angles were also solid.  I wouldn’t quite call this film a Must See, but it’s definitely a decent choice if you’re looking for something to watch.
