Plot Summary: Police officer Rick Grimes leads a group of survivors in a world overrun by zombies.
Creator: Frank Darabont
Serious Jest: (Watch It Live) This is my favorite television show ever. It’s not necessarily the best, but it’s my favorite.
I’m a big zombie-apocalypse fan, but the series is not really about the zombies. It’s really about the struggle between humanity and survival instinct. It makes you think about how you would measure up in a post-apocalyptic world. Are your abilities and skills essential? Do they matter outside of this constructed, often-superficial society that humanity has built? Is that society really a false construct, or do many of the same issues re-surface in different forms even when everything is stripped bare? And why the hell does no one on this show use the word “zombie”? Is this a world where nobody’s heard of zombies?
I’ve read the comic book, as well. It and the TV series are like alternate universes (some of the characters are really only really the same in name). So, after this show has run its course, feel free to read the comic and re-live the excitement with different outcomes…kind of like a Choose Your Own Adventure book. Then, if you’re still hungry for
brains more, get 3 other Doomsday Preppers together and play The Walking Dead Board Game. It’s a great way to band together with your friends…then stab them in the back and take their supplies.
In true AMC fashion, the TV series constantly takes sudden, unexpected turns. Beware, no character is safe, so don’t get too attached.
