Plot Summary: A story of family, religion, hatred, oil and madness, focusing on a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business.
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Writers: Anderson (screenplay), Upton Sinclair (novel)
Stars: Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Dano, Ciarán Hinds
Serious Jest: (Don’t Bother) Put quite simply: theatrical blueballs. The acting was masterful (especially by Day-Lewis and Dano), the cinematography was great, and the score was captivating, but, 2 1/2 hours in, I was still wondering what this movie was about.
